Bergamot Orange Essential Oil
|
Bergamot Orange is a citrus fruit that resembles a typical orange and is primarily known for its delectable fragrance. It is indigenous to Southern Italy, which cultivates more than 80% of the yield grown worldwide. The juice of the fruit is not considered edible but is however, used to flavor teas and marmalades. The essential oil produced from the fruit is widely used in perfumery and skin care. One hundred bergamot oranges will produce approximately three ounces of the liquid.
Bergamot orange essential oil is commercially used in the creation of scented products. It has the ability to blend other fragrances completely creating an exquisite bouquet. Currently an estimated one third of all mass produced men's fragrances and at least one half of all women's scents are composed with this essential oil. Its popularity in perfumes and other scents can be traced back to its usage in the creation of Eau de Cologne formulated in the earlier half of the 18 th century by Farina. Its rich aroma is known to reduce anxiety and aid in the process of digestion.
The essential oil is also an ideal skin care agent. It is added to body care products including lotions and creams. It immediately cools and soothes the skin and induces relaxation. It is also considered an effective treatment for inflammation of the skin, acne and psoriasis, which has largely been attributed to its antiseptic properties.
Bergamot essential oil continues to be a popular additive to a number of bath and body products because of its healing and aroma-therapeutic properties. It is also widely used in natural skin care because of its limited potential to trigger unwanted side effects.
